Logs and privacy

Automatic diagnostic logs

ShortNerdCat writes a diagnostic log on your device. By default it also sends this log to our servers in the background, through your own connection, so that blocking and connection problems can be found and fixed.

The automatic upload contains detailed information, including the addresses your traffic connects to. Uploaded logs are stored on our servers without removing these details.

Turning automatic sending off

Use the setting Send diagnostic logs to support automatically. The setting belongs to your account and applies to all your devices. Changing it requires an active connection.

Turning it off does not delete the log on your device.

Sharing logs yourself

When support asks for it, use Share Logs (Android, WildCat, Tabby Kitty), Show Logs in Finder (macOS), or Open Log Directory (Linux). Do not include your password or full key.

What The Tunnel Cat does and does not protect

It helps with: reaching sites and services blocked on your network; hiding the content of your traffic from the network you are on; making your traffic look like ordinary encrypted web traffic.

It does not: hide your identity from the sites and services you sign in to; protect a device that is compromised or unlocked by someone else; make you anonymous. Automatic logs contain the addresses your traffic connects to, unless you turn automatic sending off.
